Do you think it is more effective to search the invisible web (databases) than using search engines, meta-search or subject directories? Why?
I think it is better to use search engines such as google to search for information due to its simplicity and effectiveness.
Subject directories are compiled by humans, thus it might not ahve the information you are looking for if no one has ever compiled it before.
Meta search engines are not too bad.
It searches several different search engines all at once.
However the results churned out are sometimes irrelevant.
a. What benefits do you get when using different search facilities to search for resources related to your topic?
Through using different search facilites to search for resources, I have widened my search area instead of just limiting myself to a single search facility.
Also I can cross reference the infromation gathered from various search facilities to see if they match.

Site feeds in my blog enables me to get an update on my friends blog with he/she updates.
This I good as I would know when to read his/her blog for a new post.

Collaborating on Wiki with other students was fun!
I fing that this is actually a good way to discuss on the research topic other that actually meeting face to face to discuss.
The other student provided me with vital information that I did not know.
I also gave them some heads up on what i have done for my research so far.

Today I learnt that google uses an algorithm called PageRank to rank all it's search results according to relavance and inportance.
I must say that i am highly impressed with PageRank as I find it highly effective in doing its job.
Also google has one of the largest databases as compared to the other search engines.
This means that doing reseach in Google may yield more results.

I have also participated in an online discussing forum reguarding euthanasia.
It can be helpful to my research as people with experience with this topic may actually come forward to share their experiences.
However, the credibility of the person sharing the information must also be questioned as I do not know him/her personally.
Talking to others in the forum may feel a little weird at first as they are all strangers.
However I find that many of them are pretty nice and helpful, although there were a couple of them who did not contribute much.

I also tried to do citations an bibliographies.
This enables us to state the real source of where we got our research information from.
Also this is a good way to credit the authors for their work.
